Abstract | This document reports on the Teacher Efficacy Study, an investigation of teachers' sense of efficacy and the extent to which teachers believe that they can have a positive effect on student learning and achievement. Chapters discuss: (1) overview of the Teacher Efficacy Study; (2) the conceptual framework used for the investigation; (3) the Teacher Efficacy Study at the middle school level, investigating school organization; (4) measurement of teachers' sense of efficacy; (5) a process-product study of teachers' sense of efficacy; (6) strategies for improving teachers' sense of efficacy; (7) efficacy and the teacher's analysis of efficacy and teacher roles; (8) efficacy, uncertainty, and status panic; (9) a qualitative study of efficacy; and (10) the teaching profession, its risks, and implications for the future. Eight figures and 55 tables accompany the text as does an extensive bibliography. (CJ) |
